Having thick or cracked feet is a problem that can bother many people. Whether due to lack of moisture or friction between the feet and shoes, this is a condition that should be evaluated and not ignored, as it can lead to other serious problems, such as injuries or exposure to microorganisms such as fungi and bacteria.

First, it is necessary to understand how thick feet develop. Although it can be genetic, the problem is usually associated with a lack of moisture in the area, which can worsen and harden the skin due to external exposure, excess weight, and pressure on the feet or friction from shoes that are too tight.

1. Avoid using foot files

This is a common mistake made by most people: using a foot file to smooth their feet. In fact, foot files often end up damaging the sole of the foot, contributing to further thickening. Therefore, they should only be used in specific cases and no more than once a month.

2. Create an exfoliation routine

Unlike sandpaper, exfoliation is a gentler process that also moisturizes the skin. You can use specific products for this type of treatment or natural products such as coffee and sugar. Ideally, you should exfoliate thick feet at least once a week.

3. Hydrate your feet

This step is essential: thick feet need constant hydration, starting with the daily application of moisturizers or oils. These, in turn, help replenish the water lost by the skin of the feet, also forming a protective layer against dehydration. Furthermore, to enhance the effect of the products, you can apply them after showering or before bed, wrapping your feet in plastic wrap or using cotton socks.

4. Be careful with footwear

If you have thick feet, avoid wearing closed or very tight shoes, which cause excessive friction with the skin of your feet. Therefore, opt for softer and more open models.

5. Clean your feet correctly

When washing your feet, prefer to use cold water, as hot water can further dry out the area. Similarly, after showering, dry all the nooks and crannies of your feet well to prevent the proliferation of fungi and mycoses in the fissures.

6. Maintain diligent nail care

This tip may seem strange, but the truth is that keeping your toenails clean and well-trimmed also prevents the proliferation of microorganisms that can worsen the problem of thick heels and cracks.

7. Use petroleum jelly and saline solution

One of the best-known mixtures for thinning thick heels is the combination of 1 tablespoon of petroleum jelly and 1 teaspoon of saline solution. This combination acts by promoting deep hydration of the feet and should be used at night, before bed. Similarly, you can also use socks or plastic wrap on your feet to enhance the effect of the mixture.

8. Use milk and basil

This is a fantastic recipe for thinning the feet. In a basin, place 1 liter of milk and 1 handful of fresh basil leaves. Finally, soak your feet in the mixture for about 20 minutes. The result will be instantly soft and smooth feet!

9. Invest in honey and aloe vera

This is another homemade recipe that promotes instant hydration: simply mix 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel and apply to your feet, leaving the mixture on overnight. You can also perform this procedure up to 3 times a week.
